Are You Too Familiar With God?
After being a follower of Christ for several years, for some reason - something about our human nature, it’s easy to become familiar with the greatness of our God. He is, after all, the creator of the galaxies, the One who sustains the beating of our heart, the provider of nourishment, etc. We see his INCREDIBLE work daily, and we become desensitized to it. It’s a constant battle to remain sensitive to the revelations of God! Because of our nature, we must seek to see Him in all things. Jeremiah 29:13 says “If you look for me WHOLEHEARTEDLY you will find me.” It must be an intentional thing.
Where do you find yourself today?
Here are 5 questions to help gauge where you are:
1. When I hear about Jesus, do I treat it like old news?
2. Is my heart alive in the truth?
3. Am I still engaged with God’s word?
4. Do I speak often of the work of God in my life?
5. Do I look forward to worship for the simple reason of being with Jesus?

Is your praise pleasing to God?
Do you think God needs more music in Heaven? Do you think the melody we have to offer Him is better than than the one the angels are singing? He made the molecules in the air to vibrate and dance in a way that pleases Him! He doesn’t NEED our melody. Our songs our simply a routine “burnt offering” to God if they are not a true reflection of our heart.
“I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” - Psalm50:8-9
He is not put off by a half-hearted, routine song of praise - it’s no sin. But it’s just noise to Him if it’s not a true reflection of your heart. So what is He after? What kind of praise does He really want from us?
David Crowder says it well:
“It is Praise Living. It is God leaning in and shouting, ‘I am the center!’ and the sum of our lives nodding back in agreement. It is the core of our hearts echoing this statement.
He is not begging to be the center. He IS the center.” - Praise Habit
He is pleased with our praise when our hearts actually acknowledge His authority, excellence, faithfulness, provision, sacrifice, etc. We sing the songs we sing in church because they place words in our mouth that can remind us of these things. If we respond by just reading/singing them, we’re creating nothing more than noise to Him. However, if we respond by feeling them and expressing our hearts, He delights in our praise.
Are you bringing God an offering of noise or praise?
